Solar to supply Hot Water is known as Solar Thermal. This type of system uses solar panels or tubes which are fitted to a roof or wall. These collectors, gain heat from the sun and use it to heat up your water, in a solar specific hot water cylinder. If you can not generate enough hot water from the sun, you can use a your boiler or immersion heater to top up the cylinder.
A solar thermal system can generates upto 90% of your hot water requirements and is eligable for RHI payments to make the technology more affordable. A solar thermal system is designed to operate automatically without any interference, other than the annual service.
